Public Health
The patterns of illness and death in Thailand have shifted from infection
diseases to non-communication diseases (NCDs), caused by the mis-functioning
of the various organs of the body, they are such as diabetes/high blood pressure,
heart disease, cancer. However, HIV/AIDS, and accidents are still major causes of
deaths in Thailand.
Health service system in Thailand has been successfully developed in
expanding the health coverage policy and the Public Health Services units
throughout the country. However, the problem of not being able to get an easy
access to the health services for some vulnerable groups of people still exists.
4.1 Birth and Death
In the past, Thailand had succeeded in family planning policy; a number of
births have been dramatically declined. Moreover, the rapid changes in
economic and social have impacts on social values of Thai people on a limit
number of children, age at first marriage and being single, therefore, it was
resulting in the birth rate which was 12.5 persons per 1,000 population in 2012,
decreased from 12.7 persons in 2007. The death rate increased from 6.3 persons
per 1,000 population in 2007 to 6.5 persons per 1,000 population in 2012,
with the major causes of deaths, such as cancer, accident, heart diseases and
high blood pressure respectively.
