3.2 Education System
3.2.1 Type of Education
The education system in Thailand is classified into 2 main types; formal
and non-formal education. Formal Education would have specific format of
curricula, duration and assessment and evaluation conditional completion.
Formal education service is mainly provided to those within the school system,
at both basic and higher education level, and in both general and vocational
systems. The basic education consists of pre-primary, primary and secondary
level in total 15 years. Besides the government provides 9 years compulsory
education for free which includes six years of primary and three years of lower
secondary.
Non formal education service is set up to provide more opportunities to
people who are not being able to access formal education system. This non formal
education system aims to develop the students to suit their needs and conditions.

the proportions of population were 19.4% in pre-primary
education level, 35.1% in primary level, 32.7% in secondary level and 12.8% in
higher level.
