3.2.2 Gross Enrollment and Education Continuation
Gross enrollment rate in primary level means the number of
children who registered to attend primary level at any ages per population
between 6-11 years. It was found that in 2013 Gross enrollment rate in
primary level was 98.8%, secondary level was 89.8%.
For the continuation rate to secondary school, in 2012, it showed
the decreasing trend from 2011, of these, that were continuing rate to lower
secondary and upper secondary school, 77.3% and 96.0% respectively.

3.2.3 Retention and Drop-Out
One major problem in education is dropout. Under the National
Education Act and the government policy, 15 years basic education was set for
free for students throughout the country and upgraded the compulsory education
from 6 years to 9 years. However the numbers of dropouts adjusted were found in
lower secondary level, with a declining trend, compared to the past 4 years
(Academic Year 2009-2012). Dropout rates were lowest in primary level and
highest in upper secondary level.
