1.2.2 Urbanization
The study of the distribution and density of the population living in
urban and rural area is important for guiding the public sector in setting up plans
and policies for the infrastructure and appropriate allocating the resources to
each area. The private sector could also be able to use this indicator to set up
marketing plan for their businesses.
In the last two decades, the major change which affected the distribution
of the population living in municipal and rural areas were local empowerment policy
in 1997 then upgrading thousands of sanitary districts to be municipal areas in 2000.
With these changes the population in municipal area increased up to 31.1% (in 2000).
Including the migration phenomenon nowadays, the population in municipal area
increased up to 44.2% (Population and Housing Census 2010).
