1.1 Population
1.1.1 Population and Growth Rate
There are many sources of data on population, such as population
from registration and administration bases, population censuses conducted by
the NSO. The latest census was the 2010 round, which collected data from the
residents in Thailand as of the censuses date; September 1, 2010. From the
latest census, there were 65.9 million people in Thailand, which increased from
60.9 million in 2000. With this, growth rate of population in the past 10 years was
0.7% (2000-2010), compared to the past censuses; (1990-2000) which was 1.1%.
Population data from the Bureau of Registration Administration,
Ministry of Interior, which were the number population registered in household
registration in the annual registration basis, showed that the number of
population increased from 64.4 million in 2012 to 64.7 million in 2013,
presenting population growth rate 0.5% per year.
Number of population projected, by the Office of the National
Economic and Social Development Board, using base data from Population and
Housing Census is another major source of data on population. The number of
projected population for the next 10-20 years will slightly increase with growth
rate of 0.40% in 2020 and 0.03% in 2030.
