5.3 Social Security
The Social Security Scheme is operated according to the Social Security
Act B.E 2533 (A.D. 1990) and its Amendment B.E 2537 (A.D. 1994) and B.E 2542
(A.D. 1999) for insured person who starts working at the age of not under
fifteen and not over sixty years old in the enterprise with 1 or more employees
which the registered employees could claim for sickness or injuries, maternity,
invalidity, death, child allowance and old-age benefit.
During 2005-2012, the compulsory insurance increased from approximately
8.2 million persons in 2005 to around 9.4 million persons in 2012 while a
number of voluntary insured persons were likely to increase dramatically. That is
insured person under section 39 increased from about 0.24 million in 2005 to
0.98 million in 2012.
