Other Social Statistics
This last chapter presents the other issue regarding the quality of life of
the Thai population; which could reflect the social situations in the country.
7.1 Pawn Statistics
Public Pawn is the agency which provides an access to financial service
with low interest rate. Public pawn service is an easy way for the people as
there is less process compared to the Bank and with lower interest rate
compared to Private Pawn (Public Pawn interest rate is ranging from 0.25-1.25%
per month while Private Pawn is about 0.5-2.0%).
Pawn Statistics in the past 10 years increased continuously about 0.4%.
In 2012 the service on Pawn shop was about 12%, however, there were some
people who deposited the valuable assets but could not take it back due to the
impact of economic crisis.
Most of valuable assets during 2008-2012, were gold, diamond and jewelry
(more than 95%), followed by electrical equipment, pen, camera etc.
By occupation, in 2008-2012 about 79-84% was general labourer then
merchant (6-7%). Agriculture and state enterprise officers used pawn service
with the least proportion.
The value of assets of the pawn shop was about 100,000 million baht
each year, and it tends to increase continually which reflects the financial
liquidity of household, especially during the economic recession and strict
lending of the commercial bank, which makes people have difficulty in
financial access.
